South African multi-award winning house music duo, Black Motion’s latest album titled YA BADIMO as well as their smash hit single Imali are now both certified Platinum. At the core of their musical and spiritual journey lies the passion for social responsibility and matters that concern injustices in society – best interpreted through the music, the beat, and the fans that allow them to breathe life into every song and live performance.

Black Motion said, “This album represents us giving thanks to the Ancestors – we are forever grateful for the way in which the music keeps growing and grounding us to keep creating music for our fans. Thank you to our label, our extended Spirit Motion family – Stay True – Be yourself and do good by you!”.

“When the journey started, little did we know that one day we would have a platinum & multi award winning album. The signs were there with Fortune Teller, however we remained grounded and focused on the bigger goal. This achievement is solely due to the fans who continue to show the duo support. This album was indeed one for the ancestors and they’ve shown us that they’ve received it with open hearts hence all the achievements”, expressed by Sprit Motion Management.

Their fourth studio album, YA BADIMO which loosely translates into “For the Ancestors” continues the musical and spiritual story-telling journey that Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane and Bongani “Murdah” Mohosana started unpacking with their first breakout hit Banane Mavoko (2010) and runs like a thread throughout the debut and subsequent albums. The common thread in the story of their career is the fact that Black Motion sees itself as a musical traditional healer. As Smol explains: “Our music consists of drums and our spiritual beliefs and so, we liken our journey in this music industry to that of a traditional healer undergoing training.”

Ya Badimo traverses topics including black pride, romance, and money and sees the duo take on Electronic Maskandi feat. Winnie Khumalo & Nokwazi – their latest single off the album.

As a group that is known for its energetic, almost-trance-inducing performances, the platinum-selling Black Motion believes it will keep on telling its story through purpose-driven music. As Smol concludes: “We want to continue to heal people through music.”

Black Motion’s Ya Badimo album has achieved notable milestones such as affording them the opportunity to expand their overseas touring which led to the duo being interviewed by the reputable Billboard Magazine, having their hit single Imali at number #1 on the RAMS Top 100 Chart (local and international) for multiple consecutive weeks – they were selected by Apple Music to provide an exclusive mix on Beats 1 and released a collectors’ limited edition vinyl of Ya Badimo in the beginning of the year.

YA BADIMO, has scored two nominations for Best Live Act and Best Video (Rejoice feat. Bucie) and won the coveted Best Dance Album and best Duo-Group South African Music Awards (SAMA).

People who have had the pleasure of watching a performance by the dance duo made up of Thabo ‘Smol’ Mabogwane and Bongani ‘Murdah’ Mohosana will easily testify to the fact that they leave their hearts on stage.
